With its American debut at the current Los Angeles Auto Show, the 2019 Volvo XC40 compact crossover redefines maintenance, roadside assistance and round-the-clock concierge service and all the fixings delivered by the Swedish automaker. Only $600 a month as a flat fee, and you get the latest luxury SUV via a 2-year online subscription service, dubbed Care by Volvo. The Chinese-funded carmaker is apparently planning to ‘make buying a Volvo as easy as getting a cell phone’, and they are on the way breaking the new entry-level luxury SUV segment.
Therefore, customers get the most compact – in the lineup – T5 crossover with a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine under the hood that is good for 250hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, paired with an AWD system and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. PHEV, hybrid and EV powertrain are expected soon in next two model years, Volvo hints with such glittering promises. The exterior features a number of distinctive accents including a panoramic contrasting sunroof, a wide variety of color options, a rectangular-shaped grille and brutal ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights. Be still, my poor heart – the crossover features all safety bells and comfort whistles like the premium segment audio system, City Safety and Pilot Assist systems, and an incorporated mood lightning. Pricing? Holy Hell, $35,200!
